Ready at Dawn Defends Amount of QTEs in The Order 1886
The Order 1886 is probably the biggest upcoming exclusive for the Playstation 4. Sure,
Uncharted 4 is coming but that could still be two or three years away whereas Ready at Dawn's new shooter is scheduled for release on February 20, 2015. The game looks stunning, perhaps the best looking game across both of the new consoles. It showed great at this year's E3 and really looks to be a game you should be excited for. However one of the main concerns is that is could use quick time events too much. Many players have grown frustrated with them over the years (perhaps personified perfectly in
Resident Evil 6) and hope the same won't happen in
The Order 1886. Well, Ready at Dawn have now spoke out about these concerns.
Marc Turndorf from the company had the following to say on the matter to Gaming Bolt; "There are many kinds of QTEs. There are really compelling ones at the end of a boss battle or just a melee encounter which makes it more gratifying and gives it some branches which are really fun. Then there are some little things like opening a door and things like that. There are plenty in the game, as many as necessary but we don’t go crazy like “Oh! It’s been 4 minutes, we don’t have a QTE, we need a QTE, ahh! What are we gonna do?!” It’s not like that. We tried to place them in compelling manners that users can really enjoy.”
Hopefully that will assure some people. I personally think you cannot say either way if they'll be an issue until you've played the game. Some games such as
Resident Evil 4 I felt the QTEs really added to the tension in some scenes, whereas in
Tomb Raider I found them to be completely pointless and only took me out of the experience. Only time will tell which way it will go but I for one cannot wait to get my hands on the game next year.
