Retro City Rampage hitting WiiWare next week with “ROM City Rampage”

After launching on XBLA, PSN and PC, Vblank Entertainment is finally giving Wii owners Retro City Rampage next week, and it looks like the wait might be worth it.

The WiiWare version of the 8-bit crime action game will be getting the “’ROM City Rampage’ Prototype,” which according to Vblank is a version of Retro City Rampage that can run 100% off of NES hardware. The Wii version will also support the Classic Controller and GameCube Controller in addition to optional shake controls for Wii Remote users. PC owners can also download the ROM City Rampage as a free update on the same day.

For those who are unfamiliar with Retro City Rampage, it is a parody of Grand Theft Auto that takes place in an 8-bit world. The game takes many queues for the NES era, from art style to gameplay to 80’s games/pop culture references. The developers even have an old-fashioned looking website for the game, complete with the option to buy the soundtrack on vinyl.

Retro City Rampage will be cost 1000 Wii Points, which is five dollars cheaper than the 360 and PS3 versions, and will release on Tuesday, February 28th. For Wii U owners, remember that it is a WiiWare title and not an eShop title meaning that you must get the game via the Wii Shop Channel in the Wii Menu.
