Rob Cohen to Make Sir Issac Newton an Action Star

There is a strange trend in Hollywood at the moment of making fictional stories about historical figures. Edgar Allan Poe got the treatment in James McTeigue’s The Raven and we will soon see the 16th President of the United States battle the supernatural in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now, Rob Cohen is going to turn Sir Issac Newton, one of the world’s most influential mathematicians and physicists, into an action-thriller star.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about this very weird project. Cohen has had moderate success as a director, making Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, The Fast and the Furious, xXx and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Cohen has partnered with producer Gene Kirkwood (Rocky) for this particular project.

Cohen is writing the script to direct it himself. He will also oversee the development of a graphic novel based on the concept. The story will involve making the discoverer of gravity the chief detective and head of the Royal Mint. Similar to Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes, Cohen hopes to turn it into a franchise.

Cohen’s next movie is Alex Cross, due Oct. 26, starring Tyler Perry and Matthew Fox based on the popular James Patterson character.
