Russo Brothers to Direct ‘Captain America 2’
Anthony and
Joe Russo, executive producers and sometimes directors of NBC comedy
Community and ABC comedy
Happy Endings, have entered final negotiations with Marvel Studios to direct the sequel to
Captain America: The First Avenger.
We've known since the end of March that Marvel Studios President
Kevin Feige had a
"good vibe" about the brothers, who headed a shortlist that included
George Nolfi (
The Adjustment Bureau) and
F. Gary Gray (
Law Abiding Citizen). In that time, Marvel moved to schedule
Captain America 2 for April 4, 2014.
The Russos only film directing credits are Owen Wilson-led comedy
You, Me and Dupree and
Welcome to Collinwood. Obviously this is a big step up.
Until we hear from the Russos why they're so passionate about Captain America or what was discussed in the room with Feige, there's reason to be skeptical, but hirings such as this don't get made unless the hiree really impresses the hirer. Let's keep our fingers crossed that that is the case.
Captain America 2, starring
Chris Evans, will film directly after production wraps on
Thor 2, which is expected to be at the end of the year.
