Fresh off his run as Nick Fury in The Avengers and headed into Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained this Christmas, Samuel L. Jackson is mapping out his future schedule, joining the MGM remake of Robocop.
The remake looks to borrow heavily from the 1987 original. Directed by Jose Padilha (Elite Squad), Robocop will star Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as Alex Murphy, a veteran of the police force brought back from the dead and turned into a cyborg police officer tasked with reigning in the crime of Detroit. Still no word yet on if the remake will occur in the Motor City.
Jackson is set to play Pat Novak, a media mogul new to the “Robocop” series, described as having a great deal of power in the film’s setting. It’s looking like the film will shoot in Toronto this fall, aiming for a release date of August 9, 2013.
