With his R-rated comedy Ted notching more than $500 million worldwide, Family Guy creator and 2013 Oscars host Seth MacFarlane can do whatever he wants, and it seems he's settled on his next foray in the world of movies.
MacFarlane plans to direct and star in A Million Ways to Die in the West, which will go into production in 2013. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the film will be a Western with contemporary humor "with one undercurrent being just how dangerous and painful life really was in the late 1800s."
MacFarlane co-wrote the script with Ted writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Ted backers Media Rights Capital will reportedly help fund this one as well.
After hosting the Oscars, MacFarlane is sure to become universally recognizable, which will make his choice to star in this film make a lot more sense. The Western take is not a premise you'd be likely to see in a studio-led project, so at the very least, we can be thankful that MacFarlane's clout will bring about some more original comedies.
