Shortlist for John McClane’s Son Down to Four

20th Century Fox is getting closer to casting Bruce Willis’ co-star for the upcoming A Good Day to Die Hard. Early reports of actors reading for the role of John McClane’s son included Aaron Paul, who remains on the shortlist, along with Liam Hemsworth, James Badge Dale and D.J. Cotrona.

A leading role in one of the most reliable action movie franchises could be a big career boost for any of these young actors, with Aaron Paul’s Emmy-winning work on Breaking Bad perhaps making him the most recognizable of the bunch. Fans of The Pacific will remember James Badge Dale from his work in that HBO miniseries and both Cotrona and Hemsworth have big movies coming out next year (The Hunger Games and G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation respectively).

The fifth entry in the Die Hard series will see the action go international, with McClane fighting terrorists in Moscow, where the film is set to shoot. Production is expected to start in January of next year, with a Valentine’s Day 2013 release date pegged. Though no studio comment has been issued,  Deadline says that the decision will be made by the studio, Willis and the film's director, John Moore.
