Spelunky Finally Coming To PSN & PS Vita

The hit indie game Spelunky is soon to be released on PlayStation Network and the PS Vita.

Set for a summer release, Spelunky was first released back in 2009, but its first console debut didn’t come around until last summer, when it was released on Xbox Live Arcade.

The news was announced earlier this week on the PlayStation blog by creator Derek Yu who said, “It’s with great pleasure that I can announce the upcoming arrival of Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita.”

“I know that we’re not the first indie title to be announced this year for these platforms, but the Spelunky team is happy to be part of this wave of indie goodness.”

He also commented that he was, “…particularly thrilled for Spelunky to be coming to PS Vita. Given that runs of Spelunky generally last anywhere from a few seconds to a half an hour, I think it’s the perfect game for a portable system.”

For those who aren’t familiar with the platformer, Spelunky is an indie action/adventure/arcade game where the player controls an unknown explorer known as a spelunker (we know).

Your aim is to explore the vast caves, whilst gathering treasure and avoiding your enemies. Basically think of Sonic but underground and instead of controlling a little blue hedgehog you control a little Indiana Jones looking dude.

Will you be picking this up come summer? Or do you have enough indie games to be getting along with? Let us know your thoughts below.
