StudioCanal to Finance Coen Brothers’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’

The Coen Brothers are great filmmakers with an amazing back catalogue of movies – so much so that the release of The Coen Brothers Collection Blu-ray box set was DISCussion’s Recommendation of the Week. As you can imagine, we at Player Affinity get excited with any kind of Coen Brothers news and Variety has reported that their next movie has found a financer.

StudioCanal is set to finance and handle the international sales for Coen Brothers’ scripted movie Inside Llewyn Davis. Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, 2010) is set to produce and Robert Graf (Paul, True Grit, 2010) is going to act as executive producer.

Inside Llewyn Davis is a movie about the heyday of folk music in 1960s New York and it will be partly based on Dave von Ronk’s memoirs, The Mayor of MacDougal Street. The musician was famous in a number of genres and luckily the memoirs will be used to help with the setting. Early word is that the Coens are planning to make a more naturalistic movie with adlibbed dialogue, which will be a real change for them because they are known for very organized and controlled methods of directing. But the Coen Brothers can do pretty much anything.
