Surprise, Surprise: ‘Paranormal Activity 4’ Arrives October 19

Well, if you were sick of the “Paranormal Activity” series we have news that is going to sting but shouldn’t surprise you: Paramount intends to move forward with Paranormal Activity 4 to be released on Oct. 19.

Neither the announcement of the fourth film nor its release date is all that surprising given how the second and third films were released near Halloween, with Paranormal Activity 3 amassing a record opening and going on to earn $200-plus million worldwide.

Together, the first three “Paranormal” films cost around $10 million to make, and together have earned over $550 million worldwide. So why break what (business-wise) isn’t broken? Such box-office performances have reignited the “found-footage” horror genre as well as increased demand by studios for low-budget horror. One such film, The Devil Inside, opens Friday.
