Yup, the gang is back. Universal has released a red-band teaser for American Reunion, which just as it sounds, will bring stars Jason Briggs, Sean William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein and others back for a final hurrah before the "American Pie" brand gets relegated to more fraternity-stereotyping straight-to-DVD "movies" for the purpose of giving Eugene Levy something to do.
The teaser shows an entire scene (who knows if it'll be in the movie or not considering the punchline of the scene is revealed) involving Briggs' and Hannigan's characters living the married life. The humor actual worked for me, surprisingly, yet stayed true to the tone of the franchise. It looks like what once was "high school humor" (though always for adults) could translate for audiences that "grew up" with the franchise if one can say that with a straight face.
The keys of the franchise were handed this time to Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz, the team behind the "Harold & Kumar" movies, who until now had not branched out from that franchise. For fans of both distinct and popular brands of comedy, let's hope it works out.
American Reunion will bring everyone back after nine years on Apr. 6.
