Tom Wilkinson Negotiating for ‘The Lone Ranger’ Villain

Despite budget concerns that threatened to derail it completely, Disney gave Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp the go-ahead to make The Lone Ranger. Now that the necessary concession have been made, the reboot of the Western, where Armie Hammer will star alongside the aforementioned Depp, has roped Tom Wilkinson in to play the villain.

Deadline Hollywood relays that the Academy Award nominee is currently negotiating to fill the role of primary antagonist Latham Cole. Disney already signed Ruth Wilson of the television crime series Luther to be the token female presence, while deals with Helena Bonham Carter, James Badge Dale, Barry Pepper, and Dwight Yoakum are still being re-negotiated.

Wilkinson has proven himself to be a dependable presence, and it should be really fun watching him play the villain opposite Hammer and Depp. It would be quite a success if Disney could get commitments from everyone who was cast before the project was temporarily suspended.
