Turn off the Lights

Uncanny X-Men Ends With Issue #544

I have to say I like that Marvel is slowly getting rid of all their "legacy" titles and re-branding them for new readers. In a way it's way DC is doing, but on a smaller scale. Earlier in the year it was Fantastic Four, which then became Future Foundation. Now Uncanny X-Men is ending due to the events in the up coming Schism storyline which pits Cyclops and Wolverine against each other for the future of Mutant-kind! What the big news is for this issue, is this terrible Greg Land cover. What the hell is going on? Why is Angel pointing at me like I'm number one? When did Iceman visit the Ice Giants home world? Mostly I want to know which magazines he swiped all the different posses from?

On Marvel's own site the fans are already in an uproar and one poster even speculates that Hulk and Captain America are being cancelled too! If you're wondering if Spider-Man will be cancelled and restart I'll tell you right now... yes. What do you think Spider Island is going to do? Again, this is a much smaller version of what DC is doing. They're keeping the titles fresh for new readers and nothing gets someone to try a book faster than slapping a big ol' number one on the book.

All things must come an end…even for the X-Men, and this October fans will bear witness the end of an era as UNCANNY X-MEN #544 concludes the long running series. It’s all come to this! Years in the making, the seeds of dissent finally bear fruit as the events of X-Men: Schism tear the X-Men and the Marvel Universe apart! When the dust settles, the state of mutantkind will irreparably be changed forever. Don’t miss the historic final issue of the longest running X-Men title this October, in UNCANNY X-MEN #544!
