Video Game Inventions That Should Be Made (1/2/2011)

Video games have shown us many things in the relatively short time they have existed. They have shown us brilliant and fantastic worlds that have yet to be imagined, and introduced us to characters that appeal to every sense. While these avatars and environments are confined to the virtual space, there is no reason that we should not be able to use them as inspiration to invent real world products. This is the second installment in a series where we challenge the notion of what reality really is.

Garrus’ Eye Piece (Mass Effect Series)

This particular piece of equipment is almost an intangible piece of technology. It doesn’t have a concrete function other than to make Garrus appear more badass than you. The Mass Effect wiki page states that it is a Turian equivalent of the Kuwashii Visor. This visor (at least the human variety) allows greater weapons accuracy, allowing Shepard to fire off headshots more often. If that is not a good enough incentive for you, it is also very shiny and I know how much you like shiny things.

Garrus’ eye piece even has the names of his former Omega team members carved into the side, removing one only after a betrayal in the Mass Effect series. He is never seen without this piece of technology even while engaging in less than fully clothed acts with a female Shepard. That’s right, that eye piece is Garrus’ equivalent of wearing socks while gettin’ it on. There is very little technological value to the eyepiece, and in reality it would probably function very similar to Star Trek’s tricorder, in that it would basically be a plot device or conversation piece. You may say that exploiting technology to look cool is vain; I say that it’s all in the name of science.

As unequivocally awesome as it is, I can’t shake the feeling that maybe I have seen this technology before. Maybe I'm just imagining things.
