Warcraft Film Loses Director

It looks like subscribers are not the only thing Blizzard is losing with World of Warcraft. Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is no longer part of the WoW movie. Raimi was at last week’s Comic-Con where he briefly talked about the film based on the insanely popular MMORPG and RTS universe.

Raimi stated "Actually, they don't have me directing World of Warcraft anymore, because when I took the Oz job they had to move on to another director”. Later he put bluntly "They had to start making it."

The World of Warcraft movie was announced in 2006. At the time, Blizzard stated that its intent was to make "one of the best films in the world." In 2009, Raimi officially came aboard to direct, and later that year, Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat was announced to sing the film's penchant.

World of Warcraft remains to be the most populated massive multiplayer online game. As I was once part of that community, I can say that there are probably better fits for the WoW film adaptation than Sam Raimi. Personally I’d like to see Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson or video game enthusiast and Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro behind the movie-making decisions of Warcraft’s cinematic future.  As of yet, Blizzard has not made any statement on a replacement for Raimi.

On that note, who would you like to see sitting in the director’s seat for the Warcraft film adaptation?
