The release of The Bourne Legacy was just pushed back a week because of The Dark Knight Rises, but it has not stopped the fourth “Bourne” entry from being one of the most anticipated movies of the summer, and Universal already has thoughts about a sequel.
Producer Frank Marshall spoke exclusively to Empire about the prospect of a fifth movie and dropped a juicy nugget:
“You see there are several different programmes in the movie with different skill sets. All possibilities are open. My dream is that in the next one we see Matt [Damon] and Jeremy [Renner] team up.”
The latest trailer for The Bourne Legacy seems to show the events of The Bourne Ultimatum happening roughly at the same time, and remember in The Bourne Identity Jason Bourne was not the only Treadstone agent, so the two characters could easily coexist.
There has been bad blood between Damon and Universal after the star was highly critical of The Bourne Legacy script, but seeing how The Bourne Legacy links the events of the previous entries in the series —plus Marshall’s willingness to bury the hatchet — anything is possible.
The Bourne Legacy will be in theaters on Aug. 10.
