‘World War Z’ Filming Will Plague Glasgow

After three years of pre-production, the film adaptation of World War Z is finally on the move. Locations have been scouted and chosen along with new cast members who will join Brad Pitt in this highly anticipated film based on the novel by Max Brooks.

The largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the UK, Glasgow will be acting as replacement for Philadelphia. The UK has been become a more popular location for Hollywood with benefits of tax breaks, a strong infrastructure and a large pool of talent. London and Manchester have already been used as locations for films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tides and Captain America: The First Avengers and now it is Glasgow’s turn.

The Scottish newspaper The Daily Record believes the film could inject £1.5 Million ($2.4 Millions) in the city‘s economy. Plus because it is a film about the Zombie Apocalypse all the film makers need to do is film aftermath of a Celtic vs. Rangers match they will do all the hard destructive work done for them. London and Malta are also reported to be locations for the film.

On the casting front, James Badge Dale has joined Pitt, Anthony Mackie and Mireille Enos. Dale is best known for his role as Robert Leckie in the miniseries The Pacific, but also had roles in 24 and The Departed. He is certainly a fine addition to the film.

Filming for World War Z is due to start later in the summer. J. Michael Straczynski (Changeling, Thor) has written the screenplay and Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster will handle the directing duties.
