Blizzard Hires PlayStation 3 Specialist for Diablo 3

Since Diablo III was announced in 2008, there have been rumors that it would be ported to platforms other than the PC. Now there's even more reason to believe the rumors as evidence suggesting that Diablo III will appear on consoles continues to mount.

On Blizzard's job portal page there is now a listing for a "PlayStation 3 Specialist" to join the Diablo III team:

"Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an enthusiastic senior software engineer to be a key contributor on the Diablo team. This position is responsible for overseeing PlayStation 3 (PS3) architecture design, as well as other PS3-specific game code development to maximize platform performance."

There are other reasons to believe that Blizzard is bringing Diablo III to consoles. Last November, Blizzard posted a job listing on their employment page titled "Lead Designer, Console".  At the same time, Blizzard made it apparent that a port to consoles was under consideration.

"We're exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team," read a Blizzard statement. "As we've said in the past, with proper care, the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we're interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project."

At the very least, Blizzard is thinking hard about a port to consoles, and are making preparations for it if it comes to pass. Either way, Diablo III is still a ways off, with Activision confirming that it will not ship by the end of 2011. We can only wait.
