American Gods, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel, continues to bolster its cast.
Sucker Punch’s Emily Browning has been tapped to play Laura Moon, Shadow Moon’s wife, a character who will be “even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page,” said Gaiman. Following her husband’s release from prison, she goes on “an unexpected journey that leads her to an epiphany about her relationship and affords her a second chance to get things right.”
Gaiman says that Browning has a big challenge ahead of her with the character, but adds that “she’s going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.” Showrunners and writers Bryan Fuller and Michael Green also commented on the casting: “She [Browning] brings a fascinating spark of life to every role she inhabits and we are tickled she will be lighting up Laura Moon and bringing her to life in more ways than one on ‘American Gods’.”
The plot of American Gods centers on the conflict between old and new gods. Due to society’s changing interests, the old gods are losing believers to deities that represent vices like “money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.” Ricky Whittle’s Shadow Moon joins Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday “on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.”
