Yes, another game based on AMC's insanely popular TV show, The Walking Dead is coming. No, it isn't anything like TellTale's excellent game. In fact, after viewing the first footage released today, it looks surprisingly...boring? The footage shows some first person gameplay with whatever one of the Dixon brothers that you are playing as, and nothing in the nearly two minute trailer shows off anything that hasn't already been done a hundred times over. Beating zombies over the head with a mallet? Yeah I did that in Left 4 Dead. How about knifing zombies? Anyone played the Resident Evil series? I think you get what I mean here. The footage shown shows us nothing personal about the game, just some boring zombie killing to some of the TV show soundtrack, ending by showing the logo for the game and a "coming in 2013" release date.
Now some may say I'm being quite cynical about this whole thing. But have you played The Walking Dead game yet by TellTale? You know, Entertainment Fuse's game of the year for 2012? Despite a few iffy mechanics, that game has one of the best stories ever told in a video game in recent memory, something I don't think this game based on the TV show will be able to replicate. Now I know I should treat this as a seperate entity from the other one, and I am, but I can't help but say this just looks flat out boring and tiresome. Anyways, if you are still interested at this point, AMC's The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will release sometime this year for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
