Gears of War 3 Goes Gold

The wait to return to the war-ravaged world of Sera and rev up those chainsaws is nearly over. Cliff Bleszinski, Epic Games’ Design Director, announced via his Twitter account that Gears of War 3 has gone gold.  Accompanying the post is a picture of a cake that states, “Gone gold!  Congratulations from Xbox!”  He noted that “At Epic, the cake is not a lie,” a reference from Valve’s Portal, assuring readers that Gears of War 3 is indeed finished.

Launching September 20th, Gears of War 3 will once again star Marcus Fenix and his fellow Gears, as they attempt to eliminate the enemy Locust once and for all.  New Locust types have been confirmed, as well as new Gears, most notably playable female characters.

There will be multiple versions of the game available at launch.  Besides the standard $60 edition, the Limited version, running at $80, will include an Octus Award Box, containing a COG flag, and a playable Adam Fenix character for multiplayer, among other collectibles.  For $150, the Epic edition contains everything from the Limited edition, plus a Marcus Fenix statue, a behind-the-scenes book, and more.  Or, buyers can purchase the $400 Gears of War-themed Xbox 360 console that includes the game, two controllers, and in-game items.
