Michael Nyqvist to play “Mission: Impossible” villain

Michael Nyqvist is set to play one of the primary villains in the fourth "Mission: Impossible" film. The actor is best known for his role in the Swedish film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Nyqvist will provide a good contrast to the familiar faces if nothing else. Since “Dragon Tattoo” alone wouldn’t have been able to get him this role, expect a showy, scenery-chewing performance. You know, the stuff that makes for a fantastic, memorable villain.

Among the other additions to the cast are Precious star Paul Patton and The Hurt Locker breakout Jeremy Renner. Renner leads the film alongside Tom Cruise, giving way for him to potentially lead more “Mission: Impossible” films on his own.  Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames will also return. This as-of-now untitled installment will serve as director Brad Bird’s first live-action film. According to The Hollywood Reporter it is set to hit theaters next December.
