Starz has announced that Outlander won’t be returning until September of this year. No exact date was provided for the season three premiere, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief that they at least know the month of its return.
Season two premiered in April 2016, which means this is a longer wait than viewers were hoping for, but Starz assures fans that the next season will be worth the wait.
Starz also revealed that the third season will be made up of 13 episodes filmed in Scotland and South Africa, where the season’s five episodes were shot.
According to the official Starz press release, the third season will partially focus on Claire and Jamie finding their way back to each other. Claire is now pregnant with Jamie’s child and has just returned to her life in 1948. Back in the 18th Century Jamie is suffering from his doomed last stand at the battle of Culloden and dealing with the loss of Claire. The two are now separated by centuries and continents.
The third season will be telling the story of Voyager, the third book in the Outlander book series written by Diana Gabaldon.
