Many gamers were dissapointed by the sudden cancellation of the third installment of the Penny Arcade Adventures series when it happened last year, but fans of the unique episodic RPG series can be happy that the Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 3 is back on track and being developed by Zeboyd Games.
The first two Penny Arcade Adventures were developed by Hothead and released in 2008. They combined the structure of an adventure game with some fun and unique turn based RPG combat but the third game in the series was cancelled at last year’s PAX due to Hothead Games commitment to Ron Gilbert’s Deathspank. The announcement that Zeboyd Games would be working on the game was made at this year’s PAX and it is making a move from the art style of the previous two installments to a new 16-bit art style that Zeboyd are known for.
Zeboyd was founded in 2009 and released Breath of Death VII and Cthulu Saves The World on XBLA to high critical acclaim, but low financial sucess, and then recently found renewed sucess with the release of both these games on Steam.
Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 3 is currently slated for a 2012 release and I’m very interested to see what Zeboyd brings to the series.
