“The Magician’s Nephew” Will Continue the Narnia Series

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader wasn't the big hit that people in the film industry had hoped for, but it has done enough business to justify the series to continue. Voyage of the Dawn Treader debuted at number one in the US box office, but only made about $107 million. Not good for a film that cost $155 million. However, it made $300 million worldwide and its total gross was over $400 million.

Narnia fans originally suspected that The Silver Chair was going to be the next book to be converted into a film, but now producer Michael Flaherty has confirmed to The Christian Post that it is now going to be The Magician’s Nephew. The Magician’s Nephew was published in 1955 and is the second highest selling novel in the Narnia series.

The Magician’s Nephew is a prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe before the Pevensie children arrive in the world. The adventure focuses on young Digory Kirke (the Professor in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, played by Jim Broadbent) and Polly Plummer who arrive into Narnia when Aslan creates the world and when evil first enters.

The Magician’s Nephew may allow for a mini-reboot to the series; it would certainly lead to a change to most of the cast. But before you get too excited, Flaherty has said the film project is years away, with finding a screenwriter being the first task.

Are you excited or disappointed about the prospect of seeing The Magician’s Nephew given the Hollywood treatment? Would you rather see The Silver Chair as the next Narnia movie? Do you care about who is cast or who directs? Let us know your thoughts.
