The Walking Dead Brought To Life in Telltale’s New Game

The Walking Dead is Telltale Games’ newest project, based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman. The game is set to be released in episodes, much like the comic book was. The first episode arrives on April 25th 2012, though the game was originally intended to be released in 2011. Telltale Games have produced some awesome games of late including: Law and Order: Legacies, Back to the Future, and Jurassic Park. If their previous games are anything to go by, this episodic game version of The Walking Dead is going to do Robert Kirkman proud.

Kirkman has said that, much like the TV series, and unlike typical zombie games such as Left 4 Dead, it will focus more on characterization and emotion than action, giving players an in-depth, compelling video game that will leave them wanting more.  The graphics resemble those in Telltale's Law and Order: Legacies, tied in with sketched, comic book style drawings of Zombies.

The game is set to be of mixed genres, including both action and adventure. Like in the previous Telltale titles, the player must make use of their surroundings and inventory items. However, unlike previous games, the played characters will have a limited time to do so, and failing to do so could result in death for the player.  Unfortunately, the game will not be narrated by Rick Grimes, the main character from the comics and TV show.  Instead the game features a new character called Lee Everett, and he will also be the only controllable character in the game.  However, old favourites like Glenn, Hershel, Clementine, Lee Everett, Lilly and Carley will appear as NPCs.

The Walking Dead game will be available on a wide range of platforms including Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and and iOS App Store (though the game will be released later on the iOS App Store).  When players pre-order the game for PC or Mac, they will be entered into a draw to win one of five roles as a zombie in-game. One lucky customer will also have the chance to appear as a cameo in-game, who gets eaten alive by zombies,  comes back to life, and is killed again…Lucky indeed.
