Noam Murro’s upcoming sequel to the action epic 300 just got a name change from the folks over at Warner Bros. What we once knew as 300: The Battle of Artemisia is now 300: Rise of an Empire.
Rise of an Empire focuses on Themistocles, the Greek general who fought against Persian invaders. This battle took place at the same time as the Battle of Thermopylae, the central event in 300.
Actors Lena Headey, Rodrigo Santoro and Andrew Tiernan reprise their roles for the sequel, while Sullivan Stapleton is on board as Themistocles and Eva Green plays Artemisia.
300 emerged as a sleeper hit in 2006, grossing over $450 million worldwide. Rise of an Empire, which is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Xerxes, is already in production and currently looks to bow on August 2, 2013.
