Aaron Paul Has the ‘Need for Speed’

Aaron Paul’s turn on the AMC drama Breaking Bad is his claim to fame thus far, but the actor might have a cinematic breakthrough racing cars.

Entertainment Weekly reveals that Paul will lead DreamWorks’ Need for Speed. Yes, you read that correctly: the video game series from Electronic Arts – perhaps better known as EA – serves as the basis for an upcoming film.

There’s no word on the nature of Paul’s role just yet, but we assume it’ll have something to do with car racing. Just a wild guess. He earned his second Emmy Award for his work on “Bad” earlier this year and currently stars in the indie flick Smashed alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who has gotten a lot of Oscar buzz for her performance.

Act of Valor director Scott Waugh will direct Need for Speed, which was written by John Gatins, who penned the screenplay for Robert Zemeckis’ Flight. His brother, George Gatins, wrote the story.

Filming on the movie commences in early 2013, and the current plan is for the film to speed into theaters on February 7, 2014.
