ABC Orders Gothic Soap Opera Pilot

ABC has ordered the pilot for what it describes as a, “sexy gothic soap opera set in present day that weaves together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray among others.” According to the network, the drama will follow a young woman searching for her identity in modern-day San Francisco. She will delve into a world of supernatural mystery and horror, guided by an enigmatic playboy named Dorian Gray. The name of this show is, somewhat unsurprisingly, Gothica.

The pilot, written by Matt Lopez (of Race to Witch Mountain and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), is being produced by Grey’s Anatomy alum Mark Gordon, as well as Lopez himself.

Wait, what? Let’s back up a moment and take a look at another of ABC’s shows, Once Upon a Time. This show is about a young woman searching for her identity in the small town of Storybrooke. She delves into a world of fantasy adventure and the show features characters such as Rumplestiltskin and Snow White. So essentially, ABC is ordering a pilot featuring all the characters who weren’t appropriate for Once Upon a Time and calling it something completely different.
