Amanda Plummer Joins ‘Catching Fire’ as Wiress

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will focus on young protagonist Katniss Everdeen, who’ll once again be played by the brilliant Jennifer Lawrence, but there’s room for some veteran actors to shine, and as such, Amanda Plummer just joined the cast of the anticipated sequel.

Lionsgate has announced that the BAFTA- and Golden Globe-nominated actress will play Wiress, a District 3 tribute also known as “Nuts.” She’s a strange, often quiet individual who is “forced to compete in the Hunger Games again during the Quarter Quell.”

Although most known for her roles in Oscar-winning films The Fisher King and Pulp Fiction, Plummer also has a Tony Award and Emmy Award to her name. The accomplished actress certainly brings prestige to the project, as will Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, who we already learned will play gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. Jena Malone will also star as tribute Johanna Mason.

“Catching Fire” will be directed by Francis Lawrence who plans to shoot in September with a release planned for November 22, 2013.
