On March 24, during the 23rd Annual GLADD Media Awards, Batwoman was honored as the Outstanding Comic Book of the Year. Batwoman was recently re-incorporated to the DC Universe in the last few years, including playing a prominent role in Grant Morrison’s Batman Inc. The current series is co-written by J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman with beautiful illustrations by J.H. Williams III. While there have been lesbian characters in the DC Universe before (like Rene Montoya), this is the first mainstream DC series to showcase a lesbian character. This has been handled rather well with her sexual orientation being just another facet of her character rather than a defining characteristic. I think the award was well-deserved.
