Entertainment Fuse’s Black Friday 2014 Guide

The biggest shopping day of the year is approaching fast and Entertainment Fuse is here to guide you through the sales worth checking out this Black Friday. The major retailers have mostly similar discounts on the some of this year’s biggest games and console bundles, but there are definitely some slight differences especially for those that like price matching. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do have console bundles with this holiday season in mind. With the Playstation 4 and Xbox One already out for one year, are these bundles worth getting for those that don’t have one yet. I would say personally yes, so let’s take a look at what the retailers are offering on Black Friday 2014.

Most the major retailers like Target will have the Playstation 4 bundle pictured above that includes Grand Theft Auto V and a digital copy of The Last of Us: Remastered for $399.99. Sony’s big bundle featuring two last-gen games with their new versions is a bit questionable, but they are still two of the best games out this year. Considering Sony decided to not have a PS4 price drop this holiday season compared to what Microsoft did with the Xbox One, but have this and the Lego Batman 3/LBP3 bundle for the same price is not that bad of a tradeoff (the latter PS4 bundle is more for kids). Speaking of the Xbox One’s temporary price drop, Target has the Assassin’s Creed bundle that includes both Unity and Black Flag for $329.99 with a free $50 gift card. That is also not bad of a big deal either especially if you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan ready to get a new console.

Here are the highlighted game sales Target will have next Friday. Some of the best games of the year such as Shadow of Mordor and The Evil Within are as cheap as $25. Also most of the retailers will have PS4 and Xbox One controllers for $39.99, $20 off from their normal price.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (XB1) – $15

The Evil Within (PS4/XB1) – $25

Forza Horizon 2 (XB1) – $25

Middle of Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4/XB1) – $25

Just Dance 2015 (Wii U) – $25

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition (PS4/XB1) – $35

Watch Dogs (PS4/XB1) – $35

Assassin’s Creed Rogue (PS3/360) – $35

Some of this month’s releases like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U will also have free $15 gift cards at Target. For handheld folks in need of a new one, the 2DS will be $99.99 with a code for Yoshi’s New Island.

Best Buy’s Black Friday ad features a buy 2 get 1 game free for all used games as well as the Xbox One Assassin’s Creed bundle (pictured above) with another controller for $429.99. If you don’t need an extra controller, the bundle will still be $329.99 minus the gift card Target is offering. The Wii U bundle, however, is a big one which is the Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land bundle, but also comes with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and the new Super Smash Bros. for just $359.97. Four of the best Wii U games on one bundle? I would get one of those in a heartbeat if I haven’t bought a Wii U yet.

Best Buy’s game sales have some of the big games as low as $25 while some games at Target were listed as $35, Best Buy has them at $30.

Infamous: Second Son – $20

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (XB1) – $20

Titanfall (XB1) – $25

Just Dance 2015 – $25

Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4/XB1) – $25

Metro Redux (PS4/XB1) – $25

Middle of Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4/XB1) – $25

The Evil Within (PS4/XB1) – $25

Watch Dogs (PS4/XB1) – $30

Fantasia: Music Evolved (XB1) – $30

Alien: Isolation (PS4/XB1) – $30

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition (PS4/XB1) – $30

NBA 2K15, Madden NFL ‘15, & FIFA ‘15 (PS4/XB1) – $30 each

Walmart’s Black Friday sales are a bit disappointing to the previous two retailers mentioned, but they do have a Xbox One bundled with Halo: The Master Chief Collection for $329.99 along with a free $30 gift card. The online version of the bundle for $379.99 includes a year of Xbox Live and any Xbox One game. Walmart also has the Assassin’s Creed bundle for a similar price to Best Buy and Target along with the PS4 Grand Theft Auto V/Last of Us bundle for $399.99.

For games, not much highlighted here but some games are cheaper if you want to compare.

Titanfall (XB1) – $20

Shadow of Mordor (XB1) – $25

The Evil Within (PS4) – $35

Destiny (XB1) – $35

Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) – $35

3DS Bundle with New Super Mario Bros. 2 – $149.96

Toys R Us has the PS4 Lego Batman 3 and LittleBigPlanet 3 bundle for $399.99 along with the GTAV/Last of Us one. The Xbox One Assassin’s Creed bundle there is also $329.99. There’s also a 3DS XL bundle with Mario Party: Island Tour for $179.99 and a Wii U bundle with Skylanders: Swap Force for $199.99. Speaking of Skylanders, there are plenty of sales for those games and figures as well as Disney Infinity stuff. In terms of just games, Toys R Us has their Buy 1 Get 1 40% off for all games between $20 & $60.

GameStop’s Black Friday sales are also on the disappointing side with higher prices for most of the games already listed previously. They do however have their exclusive 3DS XL NES Edition for $199.99 and the Legend of Zelda Monopoly board game for $40.

That is pretty much it for this year’s Black Friday sales with the major gaming retailers. There are definitely some standout bundles and game prices, so for those looking to get new stuff for the holiday season, there are plenty of choices that every store will have for similar prices. We will update this with offerings from the major digital shops such as Amazon, Steam and Newegg as soon as they announce their Black Friday plans. Out of the retailers we looked at so far, I would personally say Best Buy is the go-to spot especially that Wii U bundle with four games. Those wanting to get a new Playstation 4 and Xbox One, those official Sony bundles as well as the discounted Assassin’s Creed Xbox One bundle are not bad picks.
