‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Finds Its Lead in Chris Pratt

Though most well-known as everyone’s favorite funnyman on Parks & Recreation, Chris Pratt recently proved he can carry himself on the big screen in Zero Dark Thirty, and with weighty subject matter to boot.

He now moves from comedy and drama to the world of superheroes. Pratt has officially landed the role of Peter Quill, an alien brought up by humans who would come to be known as Star-Lord and leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The number of actors tapped for the role was immense – Joel Edgerton, Eddie Redmayne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zachary Levi to name a few – but Pratt came out victorious and will now see his starpower raised to a whole new level with this ambitious film.

Considering what is to be a lighter-toned addition to Marvel’s Phase Two, Pratt should prove to be a solid choice, especially when considering how pairing the comedian with the eccentric James Gunn (who is set to direct) will turn out.

There is plenty casting left to do, so between now and the Guardian of the Galaxy’s August 1, 2014 release date, expect plenty of interesting news.
