Last week, we heard that Jena Malone was in the mix to play Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. While it later seemed that model/actress Zoe Aggeliki beat her out for the part, apparently such reports were premature, as according to The Hollywood Reporter, Malone received the offer.
If negotiations go as planned, Malone, star of Saved! and Donnie Darko, will star alongside Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as “the ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7.”
Malone’s last foray with a big-budget film was Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. While that film didn’t do quite so well, “Catching Fire” already has a solid amount of anticipation thanks to the success of The Hunger Games. The actress most recently appeared in the television miniseries Hatfields and McCoys.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire looks to start shooting this September and aims for theatrical release on November 22, 2013.
