New Animal Crossing & Paper Mario Footage Highlight 3DS-Heavy Nintendo Direct

Nintendo had another one of their Direct conferences earlier today at Japan focusing more heavily on upcoming 3DS games than their new console, the Wii U. The Wii U stuff is being saved for a big press event on September 13 at New York City, but we get to see some new footage of 3DS games coming out at Japan and eventually here at the states. Satoru Iwata was the host of today's festivities speaking in Japanese to show off the latest games from both first and third party publishers. There was no English version of today's conference, but Nintendo of America might have something different planned in the future for 3DS folks here. The new Animal Crossing and Paper Mario: Super Seal, Sticker Star for US audiences were the big first party games at the conference. New footage was shown for both of them with Animal Crossing coming out on November 8 at Japan and Super Seal sometime at the end of the year.

If there was a big surprise from today's Nintendo Direct, it is the announcement of Game Freak's new title, Rhythm Hunter: Harmo Knight. Game Freak is usually known for the long running Pokemon franchise, but they have worked in non-Pokemon games in the past. Harmo Knight is a rhythm-based platformer with eight worlds and over 50 stages. The game will be released at Japan for both retail and the E-Shop on September 8. Keep in mind no dates have been set yet for all these games at the US as we will find out about them at a later time.

As far as third party companies are concerned, new trailers for Square-Enix's Bravely Default, Capcom's EX Troopers, Level 5's Professor Layton and the Ruins of an Advanced Civilization, and more were shown off. The next Layton game at Japan comes out next year and Level 5 has said this will be the final game in the franchise. Nintendo and Capcom also teased a new weapon for Monster Hunter 4 since it is still the biggest franchise at Japan, but more will likely be revealed at next month's Tokyo Game Show. There are definitely lots of exciting games for 3DS fans coming in the next few months both at Japan and here at the states. As mentioned earlier, US release dates for most of these games will be announced at a later time. The entire hour-long conference in Japanese is below if you want to see the whole thing.
