Oliver Stone Seeks Gordon-Levitt for Snowden Biopic

"Director Oliver Stone in talks with Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play Edward Snowden in 'The Snowden Files'"
While formal negotiations have not yet begun, Oliver Stone has approached Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play the NSA whistleblower in his upcoming picture. According to Variety, Gordon-Levitt agreed to the part, with both sides hopeful for a deal. With Stone writing and directing, if a deal is made, The Snowden Files should likely begin production in early 2015. Oliver Stone's The Snowden Files aims to, more-fully, tell the story that's been circulating the media for the past year. Stone acquired the rights to Time of the Octopus, which is a first-hand account of the incident from Snowden's lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena. As followers of current events will recognize, Snowden is famous for leaking confidential documents relating to the NSA and CIA data collections programs in June 2013. Marked as a spy by the US government, and as a hero by many civil rights activists, Snowden was forced to flee the country, and is currently being granted political asylum by Russia. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently starring in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and will be featured in the upcoming biopic, The Walk, that profiles French performer Philippe Petit - who famously walked a tight rope between the Twin Towers in New York (Watch Man on a Wire if you haven't already).
