Oscar-Winning Director Ang Lee to Tackle Television

After winning his second Best Director Oscar for Life of Pi, Ang Lee is turning his sights to television by signing on to helm Tyrant, a drama pilot for FX.

From Homeland producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff and Six Feet Under’s Craig Wright, Tyrant centers on an unassuming American family drawn into the operations of a tumultuous Middle Eastern nation.

“Ang Lee has demonstrated time and again an ability to present characters with such depth and specificity that they reveal the universal human condition,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks, in a statement. “No one could be a more perfect film maker to bring Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff and Craig Wright’s Tyrant to indelible life.”

Production is tentatively scheduled to start this summer.
