Rumor Has It: Dr. Strange in ‘Thor’ Sequel? Lobo in ‘Justice League’?

Welcome to Rumor Has It, Player Affinity’s roundup of huge movie rumors. On this week’s docket, we have more on Thor: The Dark World, Justice League, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and more.

Will Viggo Mortensen appear in Thor: The Dark World as Dr. Strange?

The idea of Dr. Strange popping up in Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World isn’t a new one. It’s been around since the character’s signature amulet could be seen in Thor. However, the rumor’s picking up some steam, with ScreenRant (via The Playlist) suggesting that Viggo Mortensen will play the Marvel character.

Roger Wardell, the Twitter account that’s leaked accurate info about previous Marvel ventures, strongly hints at this possibility. According to this source, “There’s something ‘Strange’ about Thor: The Dark World” and “Marvel is negotiations [sic] with Viggo Mortensen for an unspecified role in one of their Phase 2 films.” The two tweets weren’t directly connected to one another, but they can still be read as foreshadowing Dr. Strange’s appearance in “Dark World” with Mortensen in the role.

Might Justice League feature Lobo?

A source tells Comic Book Movie that Warner Bros. wants to make its upcoming still-director-less Justice League film a bit more interesting by adding alien bounty hunter Lobo into the fray. Assuming that this rumor is rooted in fact, it’s uncertain whether he’ll appear as a friend or foe to Batman, Superman, and the others in the Justice League. The character’s getting his own film, with Brad Peyton directing and writing, and Dwayne Johnson previously expressed interest in the role, so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if this were true.

Hayley Atwell will probably play Peggy Carter again in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Though nothing’s been confirmed, a writer from Bleeding Cool approached Hayley Atwell at a recent event. When asked if she would appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the actress didn’t give a definite answer, replying “I can’t say yet because it hasn’t been officially released, and Marvel are very protective of their franchise.” It sounds like we’ll see more of Peggy Carter in “Winter Soldier,” and since she was one of the best things about Captain America: The First Avenger, her return would be a welcome one.
