Rumor Has It: Is Ant-Man Movie Getting Close?

Welcome to Rumor Has It, Player Affinity’s weekly roundup of highly buzzed-about movie rumors circulating throughout Tinseltown. On this week’s docket, we have rumors about several Marvel properties, including as Ant-Man and Iron Man 3, as well as the next film in the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

Will we see Marvel’s Ant-Man in the near future?

Several blockbusters paved the way for Marvel’s The Avengers, which is right around the corner, and we’ve naturally become privy to quite a bit of information regarding other Marvel properties. One Marvel hero we’ve only heard about occasionally in regards to his own film, though, is Ant-Man.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World writer and director Edgar Wright has been working on a script for Marvel for quite some time, but Hey U Guys chatted with Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, and here’s what he had to say regarding Ant-Man:

“It’s as close as it’s ever been.  Edgar is getting excited to get behind the camera again and start some advanced prep work for Ant-Man… We are going to take some forward steps in a few months that will bring it closer than ever. In terms of release date, I don’t know.”

Kevin Feige discusses The Avengers sequel(s), Iron Man 3, and other Marvel properties.

Three weeks ago, we posed the question of whether or not Marvel would tackle Civil War in its “Avengers” franchise. For anyone unfamiliar with Civil War, The New York Times described the Marvel property as “a seven-issued limited monthly series […] [in which] the beliefs of many well-known Marvel characters, including Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and Spider-Man […] [are] challenged.”

According to Comic Book Movie, Kevin Feige stated that the series might make a good story for a third “Avengers” film. It’s quite early to be discussing that considering that the release of the first film is right around the corner. Additionally, Feige conveys interest in taking the stories of the Black Panther and Power Man/Luke Cage to the silver screen. He also hints that we’ll see lots of other Marvel characters in future “Avengers” films, stating that “part of the fun of a continuing Avengers story would be to introduce new characters every time.”

Lastly, Feige claims that Iron Man 3 will not feature The Hulk in any capacity. Of course, this is a rather early claim, so that could easily change. There’s also the possibility that he might be bluffing.

Will Rihanna star in the next “Fast and Furious” film?

Tackling multiple genres and collaborating with many different artists, Rihanna has cemented herself as one of the most popular and influential music acts of the last 10 years. Now, however, she wants to cross over into acting. She makes her cinematic debut in Peter Berg’s upcoming action flick Battleship, but it seems that she might be lining up yet another action-oriented project.

The Grammy Award-winning “Umbrella” singer is, according to British tabloid The Sun, set to star in the next “Fast and Furious” film – the sixth in the series – as a primary antagonist. A source has been reported as saying:

“Rihanna really impressed with her acting debut in Battleship. Writers think she’ll be perfect for the role. Her character has plenty of bite and doesn’t take any prisoners — just like her in real life. It’s a step up the ladder for her and could lead to bigger action roles.

If this rumor turns out to be true, she’ll star alongside fellow franchise newcomer Gina Carano, whose involvement was announced last week, and “Fast and Furious” mainstays Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. One waiting to confirm or debunk this rumor shouldn’t have to wait too long, as filming for this sixth entry in the franchise will begin in London in the very near future.
