Ryan Murphy Reveals ‘American Horror Story’ Season 3 Details

Hungry for info about the upcoming “American Horror Story” season? Here’s what we know so far:

Season 3 will be called “American Horror Story: Coven,” its story focusing on the witchcraft of Jessica Lange and newcomer (and Oscar-winner) Kathy Bates. Showrunner Ryan Murphy says Lange will play a “glam cat” and Bates will be “five times worse than her character in ‘Misery,’” which is quite a statement.

Like the first two seasons, “Coven” will feature historical figures. Remember the Black Dahlia and (allegedly) Anne Frank? Apparently this new season will have an even more famous figure in history. With the witchcraft theme, it’s reasonable to guess something involving the Salem trials. However, unlike other seasons, “Coven” will not take place in one primary location, but rather spans across the country, including the voodoo-appropriate New Orleans.

Returning cast will include Francis Conroy, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters. Also returning from the “Murder House” season will be Taissa Farmiga, who played dark loner teenager Violet. Murphy said there “just wasn’t a role for her” in “Asylum,” but he looks forward to having her come back for the newest season.

This new season will have a much different tone, Murphy insists. “I’m interested in getting into a horror romance,” he says. He also wants a lighter feel for this new season. Uh-oh. Does this mean less “Murder House” and more “Twilight?” We’ll have to wait and see.
