Last month we learned that Sam Clafin was the frontrunner to play Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He reportedly inched closer to playing the trident-wielding Hunger Games victor when Lynn Cohen was cast earlier this month, and now it's official.
Deadline Hollywood reports that a scheduling issue had prevented the actor from fully signing on, but the dilemma has since been resolved. His competition for the role included Tyler Hoechlin (television’s Teen Wolf), Boyd Holbrook (television’s The Big C), and Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).
Clafin appeared in Snow White and the Huntsman earlier this year and in last year's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He’s currently filming the horror feature The Quiet Ones and the television film Mary and Martha alongside two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank and Academy Award nominee Brenda Blethyn.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
