Tons of New Gameplay Footage for Gears of War: Judgment Released

Fresh off the new trailer that premiered at Spike's Video Game Awards last weekend, Epic Games and People Can Fly released tons of new gameplay footage for Gears of War: Judgment today. For those who don't know, Judgment is the prequel to the first Gears of War as play as the Kilo Squad. This squad consists of Damon Baird as the leader, Augustus Cole aka the Cole Train, Garron Paduk, and Sofia Hendrick. While the new campaign clips are brief, the multiplayer footage is a bit more lengthy, which features the new free-for-all and OverRun modes in action. OverRun has the Locust attempting to destroy generators guarded by COG forces. The COG team is under a class-based system though for this mode with soldiers and medics as examples.

While the core gameplay is the same Gears of War fans know and love, hardcore players of the franchise will recognize the little changes People can Fly made with the game so far that is different from the three games Epic worked on. Those changes range from loadouts for multiplayer (you can start with different weapons than the default Lancer), grenades having their own dedicated button press, no more stopping power, and more. Other little touches I noticed were that you can use main weapons now while holding the Boomshield and you can't be downed in free for all matches. Some of those decisions are made for better or worse, but we'll see how it pans out with fans when the final game comes out in March 2013. New weapons were also seen in the gameplay footage released today with the COG getting a grenade launcher and a semi-auto sniper rifle. The Locust were seen with new sniper rifles too.

Gears of War: Judgment is slated to be released on March 19, 2013 exclusively for the Xbox 360. Are fans happy with People Can Fly's changes to the Gears of War formula so far? Let us know in the comments below.
