Trailer Watch: Black Mass Trailer #2
"Johnny Depp tries his hand at a Boston accent"
After his trial captured the imagination of a nation and became the subject of a documentary by Joe Berlinger, the life of James J. "Whitey" Bulger was all but certain to get the Hollywood treatment. Attracting names like Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson and Joel Edgerton, the life and crimes of Whitey Bulger will take center stage in Scott Cooper's
Black Mass.
With a release set for September 18,
Black Mass debuted its first trailer
last month. Featuring a chilling Depp, the likes of which we haven't seen since
Blow, the new trailer is enough to prove that
Black Mass is not just another bland biopic. The second trailer, released on Friday, begins with a similar dinner table lesson as the first, but carries a completely different set implications. See it below:

While we still do not get much in the way of a plot synopsis, or the exact roles of the other well-known actors involved, the trailer has a great, if misplaced song, from Rick Ross and Jay-Z and some truly bad ass moments. Depp's colored contacts and mannerisms make him an almost alien figure among the various other murderers, FBI agents, old women and victims that crowd the brief trailer. Perhaps a return to form for the long-struggling Depp and another solid ensemble piece in the vein of
American Hustle,
Black Mass could be either a complete bust, or Academy fodder come late 2015.
