Turn off the Lights

Watch the Trailer for ‘Looper’ Over and Over Again

It is the year 2042. Time travel has not yet been invented, but 30 years into the future, the technology is very real. Available for purchase only on the black market, the futuristic mob sends their targets back in time to be “disappeared” by a “looper” – a hired gun. No trace, no fuss, no muss.

Well regarded in his time, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s assassin receives an unexpected package on one particular job: his future self (Bruce Willis). Apparently someone down the road wants to “close the loop” as it were, whether it be old killing young, or youth triumphing over experience.

The trailer for Looper is a fantastic example of how to structure a first-look. Especially with the odd title, care needs to be taken. The teaser explains the term, presents a unique, dystopian future and solid hook all while promising an action spectacle with popular leads. Emily Blunt, Paul Dano and Jeff Daniels also star in this third effort from director Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom). Johnson has never done pure action before but the man knows how to put on a stylish show and his snappy screenplays always deliver some notable zing. The strangeness of Willis not uttering a single word aside, the few choice prosthetics on Levitt do the trick in creating a likeness and with more footage surely on the way, Looper has gone from interesting prospect to potential triumph.

Looper will no longer be a movie of the future on Sep. 28. Check out the trailer and the many teaser trailers below. Teaser trailer(s) you wonder? Why yes.
