Mads Mikkelsen Ditches ‘Thor 2’ for TV’s ‘Hannibal’

Last night we learned that David Slade left the helm of Fox’s upcoming Daredevil reboot to work on the pilot for Hannibal. Now, Thor 2 has lost one of its actors to the same exact project.

Mads Mikkelsen, who entered negotiations to play the Marvel sequel’s villain in May, ditched the project so he could star as the title character on Slade’s pilot for Hannibal. Apparently commitments to that series conflicted with the schedule that would’ve been in place had he taken on Thor 2.

The Playlist (via Zoomin Movies) relays the following from the actor:

“Yeah, that's not happening unfortunately. I had a meeting with them, but they were a little too late. And then 'Hannibal' came in, and everything just came in the same period, so now it's not happening.”

In case you’re wondering, the character Mikkelsen will play is Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the iconic villain of The Silence of the Lambs for which Sir Anthony Hopkins won an Academy Award, before his incarceration. Mikkelsen won the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actor prize for Jagten (The Hunt) earlier this year.

Thor 2 has some room to play with as far as casting its villain is concerned as it arrives on November 8, 2013.
