That’s exactly the type of X-Men movie producer Lauren Schuler Donner would have headlining the marquees if she had her way . The film in question would star Channing Tatum as Gambit, a mutant who can control energy with his mind.Unfortunately for fans of the character, Gambit’s presence in the film franchise so far has been limited to his sole appearance in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Taylor Kitsch was cast as the mutant for that version. Despite getting the silver screen treatment, people were left unsatisfied by the character’s diminished role.
With the dawn of a promising new year, it seems like the planets might finally align to give Gambit his big Hollywood break. Danner and Tatum are more than eager. Channing Tatum has been fortuitously vocal in the past about his love for the mutant Gambit. In fact, Tatum had already audition for the role in 2006’s X-Men: Last Stand before the character was ultimately cut from the film. So all that really remains is for Marvel Studios to whip up a script, snare a high-profile director, bind Channing Tatum into a 3-film-minimum contract, get this thing in the can, and pop it out to a theatre near you! (Try not to get too excited.)
