Syfy Cancels ‘Sanctuary’

Syfy has canceled its long running sci-fi series Sanctuary. The show's fourth season finale aired in December 2011 and there had been no word since on a possible fifth season. Steered by Stargate SG-1 veteran Amanda Tapping, Sanctuary tells the story of Dr. Helen Magnus (Tapping) who heads a global network of sanctuaries for supernatural creatures, or Abnormals - which she retrieves from all over the world.

After the news broke, Amanda Tapping thanked the fans on twitter and expressed her sorrow, "We love and adore you. Thank you for the love and support. Now to the long dark tea time of my soul. :(" She later added, "And yes, 'Bloody Hell', indeed" echoing her character's signature phrase. Back in 2007, the show was originally distributed via the web through eight web episodes or webisodes before catching the attention of Syfy. It was then rewritten for a more traditional distribution channel with a 13-episode initial order.
