Justice League International #7 – Review

It’s hard to tell how impactful this issue will be when the direction of the series is still unknown. This, combined with the several moments that appear pointless and the little characterization and conformity among the characters, make the issue a disappointment despite the fact that this could be the starting point leading to the deaths of several members of the JLI.

After an explosion during the UN’s unveiling of it’s team, Justice League International is devastated by the loss of one of it’s members, two allies and lies in wait to see if several of their members in critical condition will survive – or at least walk. While dealing with the aftermath, Booster tries to save the innocent, quell his team’s status and avoid getting killed by Lightweaver.

Trouble Point #0 – Review

Trouble Point #0 is divided into four chapters, and the first chapter is so morally apprehensible and unintentionally offensive that it makes me adamant about not picking this book up. If the idea of seeing a stillborn baby with a placenta noose around it’s neck does not disgust you, nor it’s resuscitation process, then maybe you could get through the rest of the chapters which range from passable to poor.

This comic covers multiple time periods, making the narrative feel all over the place. As a 0 issue, it does successfully begin each story and introduce each characters (with little characterization). But there are so many stories going on it would have been easier to just make four separate comics featuring each of them. The way they are separated also makes it impossible to see their connection to each other. Each is given a chapter name and a sub name, both of which are useless and most of which don’t make much sense in the context of their respective stories (with the exception of “The Unstoppable Force”).

Scarlet Spider #3 – Review

Scarlet Spider continues to deliver an interesting new Spider experience as Kaine begins to settle into his new role in Houston. Chris Yost and Ryan Stegman are doing a great job establishing this book, but there are some problems that are holding it back from being as good as it could potentially be.

In the past two issues, Kaine has made the unlikely decision to don a costume and become the protector of a young women who has been targeted for death by a human trafficking ring. And because he is in unfamiliar territory as a hero, he reaches out to anyone he can for help in this issue. Whether Kaine likes it or not, he’s a Parker, which means he has that unfortunate brand of luck. The situation escalates quickly, putting him in the position of the one with a target on his back.

No More Heroes Gains Pirate Popularity

No More Heroes is a small, not-well known or well publicized project written by Gordon Mclean and drawn by Gaio Oliveira. The series was a first attempt for Mclean, who sold his Playstation games collection to hire an artist and make his dream to create a comic come to life. The comic is ranked among Batman and The Walking Dead. Unfortunately, this is not on sales charts, but the pirate downloads.

No More Heroes was downloaded on Demonoid (just one specific Pirate community) 1600 times alone. But Gordon Mclean is taking this in stride, writing…

Age of Apocalypse #1 – Review

Is there anything left of the Age of Apocalypse worth revisiting? That is the question David Lapham and Roberto de la Torre struggle to answer in this first issue, and how hard they struggle with it is probably the answer.

I was honestly surprised when Marvel announced this series. Why? Because I was reading the Dark Angel Saga at the time, and the last thing I would’ve guessed it was doing was trying to stir up interest in going back to the Age of Apocalypse. That story took us back there and revealed the last few scraps left to pick from. Then, it proceeded to kill off or otherwise remove most of those scraps. What we were left with were Sabretooth, a Jean Grey bearing little resemblance to how her character was originally portrayed in that reality and Weapon X as the new Apocalypse in pretty ridiculous feat of strained characterization and story logic. From this, Marvel chose to launch a new Age of Apocalypse series. …Really?
