E3 ’10: Kid Icarus Uprising Announced

Let’s be real: Nintendo’s conference was relentless. Announcement after announcement. Live demo after live demo. Now? Now a Kid Icarus game launching on the 3DS? After two years of messing around and showing off how rich they were, Nintendo came the realization that people who aren’t their shareholders also give a damn about E3.

Kid Icarus finally returns and it looks like the 3DS looks like a technically capable system. Judging by the Kid Icarus trailer, it looks like it’s sitting somewhere between the DS and PSP, which is kind of a shocker, considering it’ll have to 3D it all.

E3 ’10: Epic Mickey Gameplay

Epic Mickey got a nice slice of time during Nintendo’s conference and wow. Everything that’s been previewed and shown before is shown in action — erasing, drawing in. This is a completely obsessed love letter to Mickey Mouse. Warren Spector’s known for his love for the mouse, and except for a some heavy-handed teleprompter readings aside, you can tell, this guy loves Mickey Mouse.

The game’s sporting an energetic look and the whole “choose your moral standing”ish feature the game has sounds like it’ll gel with what Epic Mickey is trying to be, which is to make an epic game about mickey. It doesn’t sound like Epic Mickey isn’t a placeholder title and now that totally seems appropriate.

E3 ’10: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Announced

The first true Zelda title built from the ground-up for the Wii was the first thing that came up on screen during Nintendo’s press conference today. A surprising move, considering Nintendo just loved talking about numbers for the last two years. Wii MotionPlus is in full use here, as it’s being used for a ton of actions in the game, from bomb-bowling to the expected sword swinging.

It’s abandoned the Twilight Princess look and has opted for something akin to Wind Waker, which from what I’m seeing, looks like the smart choice. It’s a shame the live demonstration completely flubbed, but with a 2011 release date, it’s going to be a long road for Skyward Sword. Oh dear, it took me this long to tell you what the subtitle was. Well, it’s Skyward Sword. Nice name.

After almost a decade, EA’s finally come to a stark realization: Everyone loved the Hot Pursuit line of Need for Speed games. True enough, Most Wanted seemed like an indicator of the series going back to what worked so well, but that was just an indicator.

Developed by Criterion Games, the guys behind the crash and crash some more Burnout series, is taking the series back to what people have wanted for almost a decade — Taking the basic concept concept of the Hot Pursuits and then amplifying it times a million with the power of the internet. There’s finally a Need for Speed game I give a darn for again.

E3 ’10: Rayman Is Running Rabid Again

I’ve never played a Rayman game before (Not even a Rabbids game), so my excitement for this probably isn’t as high as everybody else’s excitement, though it does look very cool. Moreover, it is being made by only five people, which deserves some respect at the very least.
