And your Spider-Man is… Andrew Garfield

If you were wondering what  the most googled name on the internet today will be, that would be Andrew Garfield. The relatively unknown 27 year old actor was officially named the star of Marc Webb’s Spider-Man relaunch. The director had this to say, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

There was tons of speculation that Josh Hutcherson was going to be cast as Peter Parker, but that’s how the movie biz goes! As a comic fan I have to say that I’m as thrilled about this relaunch as I was Superman Returns. Hopefully it turns out better. Frankly they could cast the Red Ranger as Peter Parker. The real concern with this relaunch is A) It’s unnecessary and B) The Director has only done one feature length film. Granted it’s a critical indie darling but it’s a far stretch from a summer blockbuster. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m sure the rapid comic fans will be the true judges on the relaunch.

Archaia Comics – Hybrid Bastards Out Today! – Preview

Coming out today from Archaia Press is Hybrid Bastards! Low and behold we have some beautiful preview pages of the hardcover for you to check out!

“Zeus is a god with a reputation for lechery, and it’s been driving his wife Hera nuts for years. Reaching her limit one night, she puts together an epic practical joke: She places a spell on Zeus that makes him fall in lust with every inanimate object in sight! It was a night Zeus doesn’t remember, but his godly seed took root nevertheless. Now, 18 years later, his unnatural hybrid bastards wander the world. And because Zeus has a reputation to protect, these embarrassing freaks have got to go! But this motley crew refuses to go quietly. Through schemes both ingenious and idiotic, Zeus’ bastard children—Cotton, a smarmy cloth patchwork; Carmine, a timid automobile; Corey, a self-loathing apple; Walter, a belligerent stack of bricks; and Panos, their gallant would-be leader—will force their negligent father to acknowledge them…that is, if their own squabbling doesn’t defeat them first! Collecting the mini-series that takes Greek mythology in a decidedly different direction, the HYBRID BASTARDS hardcover includes a bonus story and pin-up gallery.”

Marvel Promotes Jeph Loeb to VP of TV

That’s right, the Godfather of the Cliffy-Loeb, the man responsible for turning General Thunderbolt Ross in the Rulk has just been given the keys to the empire! Today Marvel Entertainment announced that Jeph Loeb has been promoted to the newly created position of Executive Vice President in charge of Television. This puts him in charge of adapting Marvel’s properties to not only live action television shows but also animation.

I can’t pretend to be excited by this news for it sounds like a horrible idea. Jeph Loeb is notorious for creating controversy for the sake of controversy. If he was actually going to approach this position with the intent of putting out the best product possible it might be interesting. As it stands he’s more than likely to shake the tree until the monkey falls out. Seriously this is the man responsible for killing the Ultimate Line, creating the Red Hulk a.k.a. Rulk and going as far as to defend Rob Liefeld as a creator, has now been put in charge of every Marvel cartoon that might be. No, this is a sad day indeed.
